Pay component costs and upgrade repeatable research

Some advanced research requires components as well as science. Its profile shows the quantities and lets you choose a supply planet.
Step by step
- Open the technology and review each required component.
- Select an eligible colony to supply them.
- Gather all required quantities on that planet by manufacturing or transporting them.
- Check its available inventory and your science balance.
- Start research when all requirements are met.
Stockpiles on different colonies do not add together toward this cost. Frontier outposts and occupied planets cannot supply components. Building-level requirements, however, use the highest level of each building among your own planets.
Advanced Industry also includes repeatable upgrades. Each level needs more resources and time, while the additional benefit gradually decreases. Compare the next level with other technologies you have not researched yet.
If you cancel research, you get back all the science you paid. Components return to the supply planet if it is still eligible; otherwise, they are returned to the capital or another eligible colony of yours. If no valid destination remains, cancellation cannot finish and the research continues.
