Today, October 1st, Nexus: Downfall officially enters Early Access.
After a month of development, balancing, fixes and improvements following the Closed Alpha, the game is opening its doors once again — this time with unrestricted public access.
From today onward, anyone can create an account, enter the universe and begin building their empire.
A new universe is waiting.
Welcome to Aurora
Aurora will open today at 16:00 UTC.
To start playing, simply create an account if you haven't already and access the game at:

Once Aurora opens, you will be able to establish your first colony, develop its economy, explore the surrounding systems and begin shaping your place within the universe.
This is only the beginning.
How do I start playing?
When you enter Aurora for the first time, a short step-by-step tutorial will introduce you to the fundamentals of managing your first planet.
My recommendation is simple: start with your economy.
Head to the Planet View and begin constructing the buildings required to produce your first resources, such as Mineral Mines and Microchip Factories.
You will also need to keep an eye on several important aspects of your colony.
Your buildings require energy to operate efficiently, while your growing population needs enough food and residential capacity. As your colony expands, you will need to increase production, manage your workforce and make decisions about how your planet should develop.
From there, the direction you take is entirely up to you.
Build your economy. Expand your territory. Explore the unknown. Cooperate with other players — or compete against them.
Is there a maximum number of players?
No.
Throughout Early Access, Nexus: Downfall will remain open to everyone who wants to play.
There is no limited number of Early Access slots.
As more players arrive, the universe will continue to grow alongside them.
Will my progress remain after Early Access?
This has not yet been decided.
I am still evaluating what should happen to the Early Access universe once this development phase eventually comes to an end, so at this point I cannot guarantee that progress will be permanently preserved.
As with many other parts of Nexus: Downfall, community feedback will be an important part of that decision.
If you have an opinion about how the transition from Early Access should work, I encourage you to share it.
How will development work during Early Access?
Early Access does not mean development stops.
Quite the opposite.
Nexus: Downfall will continue to evolve while the universe is active.
New mechanics, systems and content will gradually be introduced as development progresses. At the same time, smaller patches will address problems discovered by players, including bugs, usability issues and economic balance.
Some systems will change.
Some numbers will be adjusted.
Some mechanics will expand significantly as we learn how they behave when hundreds — and eventually thousands — of players interact with them.
The current objective is to deliver regular updates, ideally on a weekly basis, alongside smaller fixes whenever necessary.
Early Access is therefore not simply an opportunity to play Nexus: Downfall early.
It is an opportunity to participate in its development.
How large will Aurora be?
Exploration is one of the core pillars of Nexus: Downfall, and for that reason I do not want to reveal the true scale or structure of Aurora.
Part of the experience should be discovering it.
At the beginning, players will have access to a number of starting solar systems, sectors and regions within a single galaxy.
But the universe will not remain static.
As new players arrive, new mechanics are introduced and exploration progresses, new places within Aurora will become available to discover.
New systems.
New regions.
New opportunities.
And new dangers.
The objective is simple:
The universe should never feel too small.
Early Access Starts Today
Nexus: Downfall began as an attempt to create the kind of persistent space strategy game I wanted to play: a universe where building an empire is only the beginning, where exploration matters, where players can cooperate or compete, and where the galaxy continues to change around them.
Today marks the beginning of the next stage of that journey.
There is still a great deal to build, improve and discover.
And now, the universe belongs to its players.
Aurora opens today at 16:00 UTC.
Build your world.
Explore the unknown.
Take your fate into your hands.
